According to co-decision of European Parliament and the Council, 2015 is announced the year for the European development. In 2015 The EU and its members by common efforts will try to raise public awareness of development cooperation issues and the need to deepen public awareness of the development cooperation, the activities carried out and their results.
Estimated publicity shares will aim to awake the critical attitude of the society to the global challenges and understanding about the necessary changes also to the need to contribute. It is expected that well informed about development cooperation (DC) society will not be indifferent to support the policy of the DC and will seek to create a better world.
One of the means to grab the public's attention is shown example of famous and well known public persons. Goodwill Ambassadors of European Year are European Years for development faces whose activity deserve their country people respect. It enables them to disseminate accurate information about their experiences in third countries and to report how international community's solves global challenges and problems also how problems in distant parts of the world relates with current events in Lithuania, moreover how it is important to reach sustainable global economic and environmental development.
In Lithuania in 2015 with a help of Goodwill ambassadors all events will be associated with development cooperation topics. In all events context will be seen their connection with solution of global problems and opportunities for public involvement.
Five eminent public figures known in their communities and respected individuals are designated Goodwill ambassadors of European Year for development. During project realization period, they will participate in European development and other events to draw society attention to the European Year activities also they will try to get society interested in global problems and will present international community’s and the Lithuanian development cooperation efforts.
Project activities
• To arrange Goodwill Ambassadors selection and nomination; to make agreement about activities and working conditions for ambassadors of 2015 European year of development
• Organize Goodwill Ambassador agenda and logistics, ensuring their participation in 2015 Year for Development events
• To publish Goodwill Ambassadors and their activities in the European year for development
